According to data from the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Uttar Pradesh has recorded the highest growth in alcohol exports in the first quarter (Q1) of FY2026-27. The state has registered a 45.4 percent increase in alcohol exports and has emerged as the fastest-growing alcohol exporter in the country. It was the first state in India to introduce a dedicated policy for promoting exports of alcoholic beverages.
As compared with the corresponding period of the previous financial year, the state’s alcohol exports have significantly outpaced the national average. As per the data compiled by the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Uttar Pradesh’s alcohol exports grew at more than double the sector’s national rate.
The total value of India’s alcohol exports between April and June was INR 965 crore. Uttar Pradesh exported alcoholic products worth INR 122.3 crore between the same period. This accounts for about 13 percent of India's total alcohol exports of India. In terms of volume, India exported 8.13 crore litres of alcoholic products, out of which 1.05 crore litres were produced by distilleries in Uttar Pradesh.
During this period, the state also registered a 163 percent increase in the production of bottled liquor and extra neutral alcohol (ENA). Uttar Pradesh always ranked in seventh or eighth position among India’s other alcohol-exporting states, but after this data, it has moved to the third position for the first time. Punjab continues to be in the second position while Maharashtra holds its first position as the largest exporter, aided by access to multiple ports.

Industry stakeholders mentioned that the recently introduced alcohol export promotion policy is the reason behind the state’s strong performance. It is known as the first such state-level policy in India.
The President of Brewers Association of India, Vinod Giri, mentioned that even though the policy has strengthened the sector, their long-term growth will depend on creating products that can compete on a global level. Currently, India’s share in global alcoholic beverage trade is under 1%.
Adarsh Singh, UP Excise Commissioner, said that the higher demand from distilleries is also helping allied industries and farmers. More food grains and sugarcane are being purchased by distilleries,s and additional employment is generated as demand for glass bottles, packaging, logistics, cs and transportation increases.

Uttar Pradesh has recorded a 45.5 percent increase in alcohol exports in Q1. With the dedicated alcohol export promotion policy, it has secured the third position among the highest alcohol exporting states in India.
