Black Tiger Distilleries (BTD) has announced on August 4, 2026, the launch of Bodega Suprema No. 5. Crafted exclusively for the Indian market, the 100% Blue Weber Agave Tequila brand has been crafted in Jalisco, Mexico. The launch took place in Mumbai where the brand introduced three expressions of authentic, 100% Blue Weber Agave tequila developed in partnership with Productos Finos de Agave (PFA), one of Mexico’s most respected tequila producers.
Tequila is one of the world’s most popular spirits and India is the fastest-growing major tequila market globally according to IWSR. Despite rising demand, authentic tequila has largely remained expensive and limited in choice. Black Tiger Distilleries, founded by Mohnish Mehta, was founded to bridge that gap. With a GI Tag, tequila can be called so only if it comes from designated regions of Mexico.
Black Tiger Distilleries chose to pursue authentic tequila from Jalisco, Mexico, with Mohnish Mehta commenting on the launch: “When I moved back to India after living in the United States, I realized there was a clear gap in the market. If you wanted tequila, your choices were limited. You either settled for mixtos or paid luxury prices, which meant great tequila was often saved for special occasions rather than enjoyed as part of everyday life. I wanted to change that by creating a tequila specifically for the Indian market, one that stayed true to its Mexican roots without compromising on quality or craftsmanship.”
In New York City, a bodega is the neighbourhood corner store. Rooted in the city's Latino communities, the bodega has long been more than a place to buy essentials. In Spanish, the word originally referred to a cellar, warehouse or wine store, and across Mexico it continues to be associated with places where food, wine and spirits are bought, shared and enjoyed as part of daily life.
Bodega Suprema No. 5 takes inspiration from these spaces that bring people together. It is made from 100% Blue Weber Agave sourced from the Highlands of Jalisco. The product is distilled and bottled at origin in Jesús María, Jalisco. Unlike mixto tequila, which can contain up to 49% sugars from other sources, Bodega is made entirely from Blue Weber Agave.

Bodega Blanco is made with the least intervention. It never touches wood, so there's nothing standing between the drinker and the agave itself. The agave is cooked slowly in brick ovens rather than industrial autoclaves, fermented in open stainless-steel tanks, and distilled through column stills: a process aimed at drawing out the plant's own character.
Reposado takes the 100% blue weber agave spirit along the same route, with an additional destination: an ex-Tennessee whiskey American oak barrel. Once the liquid comes off the still, it moves into these barrels for a minimum of two months: just long enough to pick up warmth and roundness without burying the natural agave flavor.
Añejo is the most mature expression in the Bodega range, where time in barrel becomes the defining part of the production process. Built on the same 100% Blue Weber Agave spirit as the Blanco and Reposado, it is matured for a minimum of twelve months in ex-Tennessee whiskey American oak barrels. Bodega deliberately ages its Añejo at the category minimum rather than pushing for longer maturation, ensuring the oak complements rather than overwhelms the tequila's natural character. The result is a richer, fuller-bodied expression, best enjoyed neat or over a single large ice cube rather than as the base of a cocktail.

The bottle carries the same philosophy as the liquid inside. Instead of relying on familiar imagery from Mexico such as sombreros, skulls or Gold Rush era graphics, the label design draws on the idea of cultural exchange between Mexico and India. The visual identity also draws from Mexican modernist art and cinema.
One of its key references is the visual language of mid-century diplomatic postage stamps, created to commemorate friendships and trade between nations.
The launch of Bodega Suprema No. 5 in Mumbai marks the debut of Black Tiger Distilleries. The company has been founded to introduce authentic Mexican tequila to Indian consumers and is available in three expressions – Bodega Blanco, Bodega Reposado, and Bodega Añejo, all crafted using 100% Blue Weber Agave.
