OMG!! Bombay Cocktail Bar surprised us with a dance-filled Wednesday night. Popularly known as Wakanda Wednesday, you will see DJ Cyrus and Percussionist Anish setting fire to the dance floor!
After spending a whole day working our asses off, my colleague and I headed to Bombay Cocktail Bar to experience their ladies night just for ‘you’ (and for ourselves, of course!). I was underdressed as always, with ladies turning up in their little black dresses around me.
A little ink stamp later, we were seated at a table around the DJ booth. I could see a lot of ladies around, some celebrating their birthday behind us, some waiting for their friends to turn up and one playing the music in front of us. We liked her so much, a little enquiry told us she was still a student. We present you DJ Riya! (She plays till 10 pm.)
The night’s menu had Sangrias free till 11 pm for the ladies. My colleague wanted to play a fun drinking game to see how many we could have before 11 pm. It was 9:30 pm when we ordered our first round, a Red Wine Sangria and a White Wine Sangria.
The cocktails were a bit diluted, I had to take a big sip to feel the wine flowing down my throat, but nevertheless delicious.
While we discussed bar hopping and female friendships, we placed an order for a veg appetizer Falafel Pita (Rs. 540). We observed the ladies behind us ordering a bottle of vodka and a bottle of tequila for the party. I could feel a very strong vibe of ‘No Ragrets’ around their whole booth.
Our order was served when we were on our third round of the drinks. My colleague seemed hellbent on downing more than 10 drinks before the clock flashed 11 pm. She set a timer for the same and ordered 2 more glasses before I could even gulp my last few sips.
The Falafal Pita was a decent eat, the hummus being a little drier than usual. But if you are a hummus-and-pita bread fan, do order one for the night. As we downed 2 more glasses, the floor started to see ladies turning up the heat with their moves. DJ Cyrus played some amazing tracks but the whole place turned into a scene from a lit music festival when Percussionist Anish started to work alongside the DJ. Our eyes lit up and we rushed to the dance floor to dance to the free-flowing beats.
The whole dance floor went crazy when DJ Cyrus joined Percussionist Anish to give the crowd a dose of wildness. The beats, the music, everything was just perfect!
We stepped out for a smoke and another round of drinks. Our goal was to have close to 15 drinks in between the two of us, and we seemed to be a little behind. We placed an order for another veg appetizer Nachos Plain & Overloaded (Rs. 540) and took a pee break as and when we could. While I was peeing to my bladder’s content, I had a lady drunk-dialing her ex and telling him to bugger off with a few ‘I miss you’s in between. When I got out, she had her whole support group there, one trying to take away her phone, one consoling her, one rushing to the loo stall, one applying her lipstick while muttering ‘maine bola tha isko zada mat pilao’.
I got out of there and gulped the rest of my drink down. Our Nachos were here. The nachos were crispy, the sauce was cheesy and the salsa was yum!
We stuffed our faces with a few, offered some to a friendly lady beside us, and went back to embrace the shaking dance floor. It was 11:30 pm and the free drinks were done and dusted, or so I thought. A kind request to one of our Sangria bringing servers had me sipping on more Sangrias around 12:30 pm. I remember finishing my colleague’s drink before leaving the venue as well.
There was a slight issue with our bill though. After it was handed to us, we were told only Red Wine Sangrias were complimentary for the night. Since it wasn’t the month-end, we managed to pay the bill at the time. It seemed a bit unfair because no promotional post on Instagram or at the venue specified Red Wine Sangrias only.
The night ended with the crowd grooving to sick Bollywood tunes! We had a little chat with the amazing Cyrus and Anish, after which we smoked a cig before catching our respective autos.
Overall, Wakanda Wednesday was lit AF and you need to take your asses to their floor every Wednesday!
