India’s Camikara Rum Wins 3 Awards At The Rum And Cachaça Masters 2024

Camikara India’s Pure Cane Juice Rum Brand Bags Gold At The Rum & Cachaça Masters 2024

Camikara Rum wins big at the recently held international spirits competition, Rum & Cachaça Masters. They won multiple awards in the Agricole-aged rum category. Piccadily Distilleries, the makers of this drink, won the gold for their 8-year-old and 12-year-old rums while silver for the 3-year-old. Notably, Camikara Rum is the only Indian brand to be bestowed this honor and has put Indian-made rum on the global map.

What Is Rum & Cachaça Masters?

It’s an event chaired by The Spirits Business, an international spirits trade publication. They have a blind-tasting format to get rid of any biases. The winner is selected based on criteria like aroma, taste, complexity, and balance – qualities one would look for in an exceptional rum and cachaça. Experts from the industry are invited to ensure the level of judging is top-notch and that every entry is judged extensively.

Reflecting on the win, Siddhartha Sharma, founder of Piccadily Distilleries, said, “We wish to break the mindset that rum is a cheap drink. We have, therefore, produced India’s first pure cane juice rum which is an Agricole-style made from fresh cane juice and the palate of which is reminiscent of our weather, soil, and sugarcane. This rum stands as a testament to our land and time, unabashedly different from any global product. The aged versions, which have matured for more than eight years, are more comparable to cognacs than rum and the three-year-old younger expression is more akin to premium tequila, giving you the taste of the soil and vegetation where it comes from. Camikara is an all-natural product with no added sugar.”

For India and Indians

India is known for being the largest producer of sugarcane in the world, yet there were no quality, luxury rum brands in the country. Camikara Rum came in to fill that gap and took the Indian rum market to the next level. Its name comes from the Sanskrit word that means ‘liquid gold’. Crafted and matured in American oak barrels, it has no added flavors, colors, spices, or sweeteners and is a 100% naturally aged rum. Their 3-year-old and 8-year-old rums are bottled at an ABV of 42.8% while their 12-year-old is bottled at an ABV of 50%. This rum is an homage to the thousands of sugarcane producers and distillers across the country. The true essence of this rum could be enjoyed while sipping it slowly. It goes through an aging process that truly reflects the Indianness of this drink.
