Lagavulin Introduces 11-Year-Old Sweet Peat Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Ask any whisky lover, and they would surely write paragraphs on why Scotch is one of the most loved types of whisky. It is loved by people for its flavor diversity and the fact that it is a time-honored craft. Its journey from grains to glass takes time, but the result is always worth the wait. In a similar fashion, after a wait of almost a decade, Lagavulin has introduced Lagavulin 11-year-old sweet peat single malt scotch whisky. This launch marks Diageo’s Lagavulin distillery’s first new permanent expression in nine years. Here’s more about it!

Lagavulin Introduces 11-Year-Old Scotch Whisky

Diageo-owned Lagavulin was founded in 1816 on Scotland’s Islay island. It is known for its heavily peated single malts. It has now added a sweet flavor to its well-known smoky profile with its new whisky release. The last time they updated its permanent range was with Lagavulin 8-year-old, which was about nine years ago. This new 11-year-old sweet peat single malt scotch whisky has already earned a gold medal at the 2025 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, way before its official release.

Lagavulin 11 Year Old Sweet Peat Single Malt Scotch Whisky: Taste Profile

Lagavulin 11 Year Old Sweet Peat offers a balanced twist on the intense Islay peat profile. It emphasizes oak and malt sweetness. The aroma opens gently with toasted peat smoke. It is actually softer than other classic Lagavulin releases.

It has warm barley, honeycomb, vanila, and nuttiness, alongwith hints of toasted marshmallow and citrus peel. There is a subtle sea spray that adds coastal depth.

The very first sip offers soft sweetness, salinity, and biscuity malt. It slowly evolves into honeyed notes, caramelized sugar, and toffee apple. The Bonfire smoke and oak spice build mid-palate also includes orchard fruits like pear and baked apple. The ex-bourbon cask offers gentle cinnamon and richness. The finish is medium to long and fades slowly with dark chocolate, soft vanilla, oak, and peat smoke.

Lagavulin 11-Year-Old Scotch Whisky: Production Process, Availability And More

The whisky starts with heavily peated malted barley and pure Islay spring water. It is fermented slowly in traditional wooden washbacks. Then it undergoes double distillation in Lagavulin's four squat, pear-shaped copper pot stills. It is aged exclusively in first-fill American oak ex-bourbon casks.

The whisky highlights oak and malt sweetness alongwith signature bonfire smoke. This method preserves peat intensity through 11 years of maturation.

At 43% ABV (Alcohol By Volume), it offers an approachable yet complex twist on Lagavulin's smoky release. It is positioned as an approachable yet complex expression. This whisky is appealing to newcomers and fans alike.

It can be enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or in cocktails. The expression is priced at a retail of $69.99 for a 750 ml bottle in the US and select international markets.
