London Taxi, Khar

Delicious cocktails at the bar, and even more delicious food coming from the kitchen – London Taxi was such a hit with us ladies this Wednesday!

The Khar outlet of London Taxi stands where Oi – Kitchen & Bar stood a month ago. Not even a month old and the bar is already making a name for its excellent service and tempting menu.

My colleague and I reached London Taxi at 8:30 pm yesterday. We found the bar to be well-lit and occupied by three small groups of ladies. The ladies night menu had 8 drinks to offer to us –

Red Bliss vodka-based Mojito, Caipiroska, and Cosmopolitan

Rockdove whiskey-based Whiskey Sour

Fratelli Classic Shiraz red wine and red wine Sangria

Fratelli Classic Chenin white wine and white wine Sangria

I ordered a Cosmopolitan and a Whiskey Sour at the bar while my colleague browsed through the food menu. We decided to place an order for appetizers Corn and Cheese Empanadas (INR 275) and Mushroom Galouti on Brioche (INR 330) from the Vegetarian Small Plates menu on the staff’s recommendation.

Whiskey Sour (L) , Cosmopolitan (R)

Oh my, oh my, the first sip of the Cosmopolitan reminded me of my happiest days! It was delicious, sweet and strong. And the Whiskey Sour was smooth and tangy, just the way it’s supposed to be. We knew the moment we tasted our drinks that our night was set.

The food arrived soon after. We tasted Corn and Cheese Empanadas first. It was a sweet-tasting dish, with the exterior being soft and sweet-tasting, and the stuffing cheesy. The taste grew on us rather quickly. But the Mushroom Galouti on Brioche was the star dish of the evening. The galouti was so soft that each bite melted in our mouths. This order left us wanting for more.

We went to the bar to get another round of drinks – a Caipiroska and a Mojito. Because I asked for an ice-free Caipiroska, the first sip hit me hard. It was extremely flavourful but very strong. I am sure my memory took a hit for the rest of the night. And the Mojito was an easy minty nectarean ride. My colleague didn’t even realise when she started to get tipsy while sipping her Mojito.

DJ Krishna was behind the music that was making our tipsy asses move in a way we thought was hot. But a quick look at our phone’s gallery today morning made us scream and delete certain pictures and videos. After dancing for a while, we got ourselves two red wine Sangrias and placed an order for the appetizer – Cream Cheese Broccoli (INR 350), and a thin-crust Grilled Vegetable Flatbread (INR 475).

The Cream Cheese Broccoli was a decent eat but seemed to hold a low position after our first two delectable orders. The broccoli was cooked perfectly, which most restro bars do not seem to get right, but the dish lacked cream and cheese flavours. The whole idea for this dish should be to balance the taste of broccoli with the overpowering taste of cream and cheese, and that was lacking overall. The Grilled Vegetable Flatbread, though, was a scrumptious eat. The crust was crispy and the vegetables were not over-cooked, making the order light but fulfilling.

The red wine Sangria was as great as we expected it to be. We could taste the rich taste of Fratelli red wine and these drinks seemed to be the perfect end to our night. We danced a little more before leaving for our places.

Red Wine Sangria

The bar was not crowded because it is newly-opened. I am sure as the word spreads, we are going to be seeing lit ladies nights and weekends at the bar.  But if you ladies are looking to break your sober-spell by getting wasted, rush to London Taxi on a Wednesday night. Make sure you order as many drinks as you can between 8 pm to 11 pm to make the most of their complimentary drinks offer.

To conclude it all, the drinks were strong and delicious, the food was so fresh that it melted in our mouths, the music was groovy and the service was polite and accommodating to our numerous picture-clicking requests. It was great!
