Radio Bar

Things that are outdated stay outdated for a reason. I learned my lesson this weekend. Because, this is what you get for going to a place that’s named after an archaic instrument. Read on…

Tune out, this radio is on the fritz

Another weekend, another party to attend. Y’know, sometimes I think I have way too many friends.
Oh well, I had to visit the dreaded burbs once again for this birthday. So like always, I dressed up in my combat outfit (read jumpsuit and pumps) and headed to the party which was supposed to be retro themed. But the host seemed to have missed the memo, because she thought Radio Bar was a retro place. Sigh, but do you really blame her? Do you?

All my fears about the place actually playing the radio for music were quickly put to rest. There wasn’t any Radio Capsicum or Radio Bell Peppers blaring off the speakers, so don’t worry.

We had booked a table (thank god for civilization) and were quickly whisked to it. The servers were attentive and the music at just the right volume; so safe to say, I had a good feeling about this one.

But you know how bars have this irritating habit of rechristening drinks or concocting some of their own? Turns out, Radio Bar take it a step further with a talent that not all other pubs have – screwing up every drink we ordered. The Guava Margarita was more tequila and less Guava, the Tangy Caipiroska made us grit our teeth, the Ouch really hurt and they forgot the wine in the Peach Mimosa, at least that’s what it felt like. Oh, and they think they are funny. Rum had (Regularly Used Medicine) written below it. Sheesh!

So after a first round of truly disappointing drinks, we decided to stick to the stiff ones and finally began to mellow down. But being a birthday party, the dancing had to begin at some point or the other, right?

In we headed to where all the dance was happening and promptly began having our feet stepped on; it was SO dark in there! But dark or not one thing in plain sight was the amount of college kids that look like pre-teens (what’s with that any way? How do even they get in?!), that were stuffed in there. Call me bi-polar but what had me walking out was the bright flash light from their ‘selfie cams’. UGH.

The only thing that said Radio about the whole deal was the exterior wall that had markings like that of a radio painted on it. Toodles!
