In a city where cocktail bars, breweries, and sprawling nightlife are constantly battling for attention, spaces like SOKA in Indiranagar simply stay above the competition. Tucked away in Indiranagar, the bar is less about size and spectacle and more about stories, technique, and conversation. Founded by Chef Sombir Choudhary and Bartender Avinash Kapoli, whose names also inspired “SO-KA”, the neighborhood bar is the perfect place to unwind after an exhausting week.
The first thing one might notice is the unusually small space of SOKA. At around 531 square feet, it is considerably smaller than many of Bengaluru’s large-format breweries and bars. The space accommodates approximately 38 guests, creating an atmosphere that feels personal rather than crowded.
Instead of trying to make the room appear larger, SOKA embraces its compactness. We’re talking about low lighting, a long communal table, and a cocoon-like art installation being the centerpoint of SOKA’s decor.
There are also artistic elements woven throughout the space, including work by Goan artist Siddharth Kerkar.
The result is a room that can feel like an intimate date-night spot one evening and a lively cocktail hangout on another. The design is deliberately restrained, allowing the bar and the people around it to become part of the experience.

At SOKA, cocktails aren’t simply designed around ingredients, they bring Bengaluru to life, literally.

The team looks to Bengaluru's neighborhoods, ingredients, memories and characters for inspiration. Everyday ingredients like jasmine, yellaki banana, and coconut have found their way into cocktails. They also approach their drinks distinctly using diverse techniques without making them too complicated.
Take the Black Cadillac, for instance. The cocktail is a playful interpretation of rum and Coke, made using Old Monk Legend, Bacardi Añejo Cuatro and clarified Coke. More than just a combination of spirits and soda, it pays tribute to the now-shuttered Black Cadillac nightclub on Bengaluru's MG Road.

While cocktails are the primary focus, food plays an important supporting role. SOKA's kitchen works with small-format plates designed to accompany a drinking session rather than turn the bar into a full-fledged restaurant. Earlier menus featured dishes such as chicken yakitori with saunth glaze, gyoza with malai coconut cream and snapper ceviche pani puri with kokum jaljeera. Their menu on Zomato now shows dishes like thecha prawns, wai wai salad, chicken gyoza, and more.

The concept of smaller plates allows diners to order several dishes while moving through the cocktail menu. It also gives the kitchen room to play with familiar Indian flavors in unexpected formats.
SOKA is not just your average neighborhood bar – it has a community-driven approach. The bar has hosted several bar takeovers, pop-ups, bar collaborations, and the SOKA Sunday Rituals. The latter brings together bartenders, chefs, artists and independent kitchens from India and beyond.
SOKA’s identity has garnered it widespread recognition. The bar has been added to the Top 100 Long List by 30BestBarsIndia. The bar was ranked No. 28 on Asia's 50 Best Bars 2025, adding it to the region’s wider cocktail conversation. Its own website also notes that it was ranked No. 2 on 30 Best Bars India 2025 and had previously debuted on Asia's 50 Best Bars at No. 18.
