I have said this before and I’ll say it again – pubs and restaurants located in the burbs that have townie counterparts, are infinitely better than those that don’t. I guess they just learn from their cooler, more sophisticated sibling, don’t you think?
Taking a leaf or two out of the book of its townie counterpart
Woodside is located in the imaginary area of Oshiwara – no idea where it begins or ends. But then, that’s about every place in the ‘burbs.
The suburban space scrounge is very evident in the entrances to all their joints. Take this one’s blink and miss entry for example. Unless you have a neon sign board, which they don’t, please do not expect people to know exactly where you are located. You aren’t Leo’s.
I walked in once I found the place. The place has outdoor and indoor sections with a massive opening between the two, which rather defeats the entire purpose. Didn’t really think that one through, did they?
But you know how some places end up trying to do much and come off like they’re trying too hard? Well, Woodside is a place that does too much – but surprisingly, does it right. Whether food, brews, or vibes, the place nails it. Like I said, the South Bombay joint definitely rubbed off.
They also manage to turn the extremely irritating activity of karaoke (all you people at karaokes who think you can sing, News Flash – you can’t) into something bearable. I swear to god, if I find the one who invented karaoke…
Another thing I grudgingly approve about the place is that it is pet-friendly, but thankfully only from Mondays to Fridays during the day. So in case you are like me and have nothing against others’ pets but don’t want to share a table or break bread with them, you know exactly when to avoid this place.
Also, I’ve had enough of waiters dressing like waiters. The guys at Woodside definitely need a makeover when it comes to their servers’ ensemble. I could suggest… but I doubt they could afford it.
