Carlsberg, the beloved global brewing company, is about to expand its footing in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Carlsberg X Maharashtra: A 500 Crore MoU To Expand Danish Brewing Company’s Footprint In India

The Government of Maharashtra has signed an MoU with Danish brewing company Carlsberg. The globally-renowned brewing company has entered into a formal agreement to invest INR 500 crore in the state. The agreement was formalized in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister (CM) Devendra Fadnavis and Carlsberg CEO Jacob Aarup-Andersen. With this MoU, Carlsberg has expressed its long-term commitment to expanding its footprint in the country.

What Does The MoU Outline?

The MoU was signed under the Maharashtra Pavilion at the WEF. It outlines plans for a new brewery and related food & agro processing infrastructure in Maharashtra. The 500 crore deal will involve Carlsberg building a greenfield facility in Ahilyanagar, Maharashtra. For those unversed with the term, a greenfield project is an initiative built entirely from scratch on undeveloped land without the constraints of an existing structure or obstructions.

This investment is expected to generate direct and indirect jobs, enhancing local manufacturing and contributing to the economic growth of Maharashtra. Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis described the investment as part of Maharashtra’s broad vision to attract large-scale foreign investment, global capital, and promote industrial development. This engagement builds on Maharashtra’s active outreach at the WEF in Davos, where it has secured several MoUs across many sectors.

Maharashtra Secures MoUs Worth INR 14.5 Lakh Crore At Davos!

Maharashtra not only secured an MoU with Carlsberg – it secured big-ticket MoUs worth INR 14.5 lakh crore! The state signed 19 such MoUs at the opening day of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos. Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis presided over multiple MoU exchanges between the Government of Maharashtra and leading global firms across categories like food & beverages, steel, logistics, real estate, and renewable energy.

Carlsberg Signs INR 500 Crore Deal With Maharashtra

Here are a few major MoUs and highlights from the event:

  • Real estate company Lodha Developers signed an MoU to invest an additional INR 1 lakh crore in a large data center project in Maharashtra. In September 2025, it signed a INR 30,000 crore MoU under the state’s Green Integrated Data Centre Park policy.
  • An MoU with Yoki Green Energy involving an INR 4,000 crore investment in the renewable energy sector in the Palghar and Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
  • MoU with BFN Forgings involving an INR 565 crore investment in the steel sectr in the Palghar or MMR area.
  • CM Devendra Fadnavis noted that Maharashtra accounted for 39% of India’s total foreign direct investment in 2025. He also stated that the state has rolled out 15-16 investor-friendly policies for a conducive business environment.
