No more fumbling for change when buying liquor in Chattisgarh! The state government of Chhattisgarh is all set to bring a drastic change and give a digital makeover to its liquor shops. By rolling out digital payments across liquor retail outlets, the government is set to make payments more convenient, transparent, and accountable.
Now, UPI (unified payments interface) and other digital payments will pop up in liquor stores across Chhattisgarh and here’s the entire scoop you need to know!
The Chhattisgarh Government has announced a major reform in its excise sector in August 2025. The excise sector reform will introduce plans to bring a fully cashless payment system at all liquor outlets across the state. State excise and commercial taxes minister Lakhhanlal Dewangan issued this directive during a departmental review meeting at Mahanadi Bhavan on August 25, 2025.
Officials said that the move is aimed at making transactions more convenient and transparent for customers. Many customers often face inconvenience paying cash payments – such as unavailability of a change. To tackle this problem, the government will introduce a cashless mode of payments, eliminating the need for any kind of cash-based payment.

The minister also ordered the installation of CCTV cameras at all liquor outlets, with round-the-clock monitoring from the headquarters. He warned of strict action against illegal liquor sales and consumption at hotels, roadside eateries, and farmhouses.
The state government also discussed improving security measures around liquor shops. Soon, liquor shops will see the installation of CCTV cameras around their premises. This will not only ensure a round-the-clock monitoring of these establishments, but also greatly improve security around these shops. The ministers also warned of strict action against illegal sale of liquor and consumption at hotels, roadside eateries, and farmhouses.

To combat illegal operations, officials have been instructed to take decisive action against the production, storage, transportation, and sale of illicit liquor and narcotics. The minister emphasized the need for increased vigilance at interstate check posts and the implementation of special initiatives to address smuggling and black marketing.
