Tequila has moved far beyond the world of salt, lime, quick shots, and quicker regrets. Today, the rise of tequila is a topic of global discussion and the spirit is increasingly being appreciated like wine and whisky. Drinkers are paying attention to the quality of agave, the cooking and production methods, and characters of each expression.
And if there’s one brand that is at the forefront of the rise of premium tequila, it has to be Don Julio. Founded in Mexico in 1942, it has become synonymous with premium tequila. But how much does Don Julio cost in India in 2026? And which bottle should you pick? Here's everything you need to know!
The story of Don Julio begins in 1942 in the Highlands of Jalisco, Mexico. Don Julio González started his tequila-making journey when he was just 17. He began working towards his vision of producing tequila that prioritized quality over quantity.
Rather than simply producing as much tequila as possible, González paid close attention to the cultivation of his agave. The brand says he planted agave plants further apart to give them more room to mature, eventually harvesting them individually when they reached optimum maturity.
Sitting 6500 feet above sea level, the highlands of Jalisco is where it all began. It's in this extreme climate, surrounded by rich volcanic soil, where the legendary distillery of La Primavera was founded and Don Julio Tequila was born.

Today, Don Julio uses Blue Weber agave cultivated in Jalisco while highlighting the region’s rich clay soils and carefully selected mature plants. Its production process includes slow cooking in masonry ovens, fermentation using a proprietary yeast strain and double distillation in pot stills.

So, what separates Don Julio from the countless tequila bottles on the shelf?
The foundation of Don Julio’s tequila is 100% Blue Weber agave. It is cultivated in Jalisco and selected for maturity before harvesting.
This matters because the agave is responsible for much of tequila's distinctive character. Depending on the expression, you can find flavors ranging from fresh and peppery to citrusy, vanilla-rich and oak-driven.
Don Julio's original philosophy was built around allowing agave to mature properly rather than prioritising quantity. The brand continues to emphasize hand-selected, fully matured agave in its production process.

One of the biggest attractions of the range is that you can experience how the same spirit changes with ageing. Blanco showcases the agave itself, while Reposado introduces oak, vanilla and additional richness. Añejo spends even longer in barrels, developing a deeper and more mature profile. Don Julio uses different cask styles to create unique tequila expressions that each contain a distinct characteristic.
Note that prices are based on online sources and are subject to change slightly based on the region, excise laws, and local rules and regulations.
