Jack Daniel Distillery has announced the launch of Small Batch Rye. This limited release is actually a collection of five high-proof Tennessee Rye Whiskey batches. All these batches are sourced from Lynchburg, Tennessee. From what is small batch rye to more on the launch, here's everything you must know.
Small batch rye is actually a premium rye whiskey. It is crafted by blending a selected and limited number of barrels that offer more distinct flavor profiles and higher quality output as compared to mass-produced rye. The criterion is that the output must contain at least 51 percent rye. This results in dry, spicy, and bold flavors.
The special and limited release of small batch rye by Jack Daniel Distillery is actually a collection of five high-proof Tennessee Rye Whiskey batches that are sourced from three barrelhouse locations in Lynchburg, Tennessee. All five batches are drawn from about 129 barrels. These barrels were selected based on their entry dates that spanned from February 2016 to August 2017.

Every batch was matured for about 10 years across barrelhouses in different locations. These locations include places like Boiler Hill, Coy Hill, and Fire Brigade Fields.
Coy Hill is a name very familiar to Jack Daniel's lovers. This location has produced about two out of the five batches. The other 3 batches came from Fire Brigade Field and Boiler Hill. These two are the new maturation locations situated within the Lynchburg distillery grounds.
All five batches rank between 142.7 and 146.1 proof points. Proof points in alcohol measure ethanol concentration. These bottles were also presented at barrel proof.
Master Distiller of Jack Daniel's, Chris Fletcher, and his team were the minds behind the selection of the barrels. He called the project a demonstration of the company's rye whiskey programme. Chris and his team selected every barrel for its high-proof characteristics and intense flavors.
He believes that this recipe of Tennessee Rye Whiskey is one of the most exciting innovations by Jack Daniel Distillery. This small batch release clearly demonstrates how time and place can create a bold and intense flavor that is totally Jack.

The expression uses the traditional Jack Daniel’s rye mash bill of 70 percent rye, 12 percent malted barley, and 18 percent corn. The distillery’s signature process is being followed, and hence the spirit was charcoal filtered before entering new oak barrels.
The tasting notes by the distillery give out a profile that includes burnt oak, black pepper, and caramel. It also includes a rounded finish of butterscotch and leather. Jack Daniel’s Special Release Small Batch Rye will be available this month only. It will be available for a suggested retail price of $64.99. The limited nature of the five batches of the whiskey will be sold at the White Rabbit Bottle Shop located at the Jack Daniel Distillery in Lynchburg exclusively.
