Onam celebrations in Kerala bring a huge increase in the sale of alcoholic beverages in the state, and this year, too, the sales surged. The Kerala State Beverages Corporation (BEVCO) marked liquor sales of INR 771.29 crore during Onam. This number was recorded over 8 days until August 25, especially on Uthradam, as per sales through Bevco outlets in the state.
Kerala recorded INR 771.29 crore in liquor sales this year, while last year the state had recorded about INR 694.96 crore in the same period during last year’s Onam celebrations. To meet the increasing demand during the Onam season, the warehouses of the corporation were well-stocked.
A day before Thiruovam, Uthradam was marked as one of the busiest days for liquor shopping in Kerala. On this day, the state recorded liquor sales of INR 126.31 crore. However, this is less than last year’s Uthradam sales, which were clocked at INR 137. 64 crore.

Though Bevco has a large turnover, it reportedly recorded an INR 180 crore loss in the year 2025. The reason behind this was an increase in the gallonage fee, which is charged on the volume of liquid that is moved, sold, or delivered. It increased from five paise to INR 10, which actually increased the financial burden on the corporation.
Bevco had last year recorded an all-time high of INR 970.74 crore in liquor sales during the 12-day Onam season from its outlets in Kerala. The outlet remained closed on August 26, which is the main Onam day. Bevco supplies liquor from 289 outlets across the state.
It is a wholly owned Kerala government company that is responsible for the purchase, distribution, and sale of beer, foreign-made foreign liquor (FMFL), wine, Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL), and foreign-made wine (FMW) across the state.
