Oaksmith International is one of the leading whisky brands in the world today, and for pretty valid reasons (we’ll get to that in a bit). The brand’s internationally-acclaimed whisky has been formulated by Shinji Fukuyo, Chief Blender at Suntory, a Japanese multinational brewing and distilling company. With his whisky-making expertise, Oaksmith International has managed to offer a blend that is best of both Indian and Japanese craftsmanship. Which is why, we’ll be taking a deep dive into the brand and how it is changing India’s whisky game.
Oaksmith International is a first-of-its-kind international whisky brand. It is a harmonious blend and a result of unique global collaboration marrying Japanese and Indian craftsmanship. It brings together the best practices in whisky-making, across Scotland, the United States, and Japan.
It aims to set a new standard by being the first in India to blend Scotch Malt Whiskies and Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey – some dating over 200 years old. The delicate blend is crafted with carefully selected ingredients and made by globally recognized blenders. The result? A world-class whisky that is rich, smooth, and uniquely ‘Oaksmith International.’
The company unveiled two special Made-for-India blends in 2019 – Oaksmith Gold and Oaksmith International. These two special blends have been carefully selected and are known for their honeyed sweetness, creamy textures, and a distinct character reminiscent of the highlands of Scotland.
The Scotch whiskies at Oaksmith International are crafted as nature intended, and are known for their honeyed sweetness, creamy texture, and a character that’s distinctly Scottish.
In each sip of their aged Bourbons, you’ll taste the elegance, smoothness, and refinement of a craft that has been aged in charred American oak barrels. This aging, perfected over the course of 200 years, is a method as old as the distillery itself.
Rare blends of Oaksmith are crafted by the revered Japanese blender, Shinji Fukruyo. With more than 30 years of experience crafting some of the world’s most awarded whiskies, he has lended his expertise to crafting Oaksmith whisky.
Oaksmith International’s design story is inspired by world class Japanese blending techniques, with the Oaksmith moniker introducing the principle of craftsmanship. It also inspires the round cask label on the bottle, which is based on the aerial view of an oak cask.
Speaking of the crest, it is pedestalized with entwined ‘O’ and ‘S’ that balance the overall contemporary look with traditional elements. To remain distinctive, it does not have the customary pastiche of Scottish symbolism. The entwined crest conveys the collaborative nature of the story of two distinct, yet symbiotic whisky-making nations collaborating under the auspices of Japanese craftsmanship.
And when it comes to the pack graphics and colors, they take inspiration from contemporary whisky packaging from both sides of the Atlantic. Think of iconic round labels, modern styling, bespoke bottle structure, hexagonal footprint, tall neck, and beveled edges. Together, they reflect the brand philosophy of Oaksmith of ‘standing tall’ with high quality, integrity and international standards.
Note that prices of Oaksmith International Whisky might differ based on state laws and excise policies in different Indian states. Prices may also vary depending on retail mark-ups, quantity, and variants. Here are the prices of Oaksmith International Whisky in India:
