Introducing SOORAHI: India’s New Premium Blended Whisky Sensation

Indian whisky has had its moment across the globe in the last few years, thanks to premium homegrown brands offering high-quality fine blends to global audiences. Now, there’s another band to look out for in the Indian whisky space – SOORAHI. But worry not, it’s not just another brand here to make a temporary splash. The brand is here to make waves – one sip of blended whisky at a time! Here’s what you need to know about this premium blended whisky!

Significance Of ‘SOORAHI’

Alco beverage industry veteran Ankur Sachdeva, Kanhav Uppal and Manish Uppal of the Uppal Group have joined forces to create Uppal Brewers & Distillers (UBD), and SOORAHI is their maiden offering. The fine blended whisky is an embodiment of exploration – it is reflected in its branding and even its name.

The word ‘Soorahi’ derives from two Hindi words, ‘soo’ meaning ‘good’ and ‘rahi’ meaning ‘traveler’. The brand embodies the essence of exploration, representing an era of discovery that also highlights Indian brands gaining recognition on the global stage.

The Birth And Taste Of SOORAHI

SOORAHI has been crafted by master blender Prabhat Barik, a veteran in the business. Barik desired to create an easy-to-drink yet rich and layered whisky. The result, after several experiments, was SOORAHI, which is now available to consumers.

The blended whisky features flavors of oak, toffee caramel, and dried fruits, complemented by a subtle hint of smoke. It's a smoky, fruity, and sweet spirit that offers a smooth experience, making it an excellent choice for those new to whisky. Plus, no alcohol burn or alcohol vapor is hitting you on the face as you sniff it. This makes it perfect for not just discerning connoisseurs but also for new, curious whisky drinkers.

The Packaging Brilliance Of SOORAHI

The naming is quite intriguing, but so is the packaging of SOORAHI’s bottles. The pack contains design elements symbolic of a compass as well as the North Star on a dark blue night-like background. These elements are symbolic of the travel and exploration bit we mentioned above. These motifs perfectly vocalize that SOORAHI’s journey is not about finding itself in a sea of fierce competition, but to embark on a journey of discovery and exploring and evolving along the way for its consumers.

While the packaging is intriguing, it’s commendable how the brand delivers its product in a vessel that is as high in quality as the drink. UBD has used the heaviest glass for any premium Indian whisky or any whisky bottled in India so far! Now that’s what we call dedication towards quality!

SOORAHI’s Launch In Delhi And Expansion Into Punjab

The brand debuted SOORAHI in Delhi in January 2025, receiving an excellent response. Following the success of SOORAHI in Delhi, UBD is now aiming to bring this blended whisky to nearby regions of Delhi including Ludhiana, Mohali, Patiala, Jalandhar, and a few others.

By entering into key cities in Punjab, the brand will offer its premium selection to discerning consumers in the vibrant, culturally rich land of Punjab. UBD is also planning to expand into the states of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh and also cement its position in duty-free markets.

On SOORAHI’s introduction in the Indian market, Kanhav Uppal, Co-owner of UBD, commented, “The Uppal Group, founded over 40 years ago, has always been committed to delivering products that embody luxury, sophistication, and exceptional craftsmanship. With this unwavering dedication, we’ve made our mark in the world of real estate. Today, we bring that same passion and commitment to the alco-bev industry. We are now proud to introduce SOORAHI- our first premium blended whisky, meticulously crafted with a singular focus to offer an unparalleled experience of excellence”.

At present, SOORAHI is retailing for INR 1700 (Delhi), and if we’re being honest, that’s a reasonably priced commodity considering that SOORAHI is all about delivering the premium experience in each sip. With its expansion in different states, prices might vary depending on the respective state’s liquor policies.
