New Delhi Excise Policy: Delhiites Can Pre-Book Liquor On Government App!

Delhiites, liquor purchase will soon get easier for you! Drafted under the new Delhi excise policy, Delhiites will now be able to pre-book their favorite liquor brands under a new application. It will be a government-built application and make the entire liquor retail process easier and more convenient. Let’s understand this new development in the excise policy and what it means for the people of Delhi.

Pre-Book Liquor On Government App In Delhi!

The Delhi government is set to revolutionize the way residents access liquor. Now, they can sit in the comfort of their homes and use an app to check real-time stocks and pre-book their favorite liquor brands with just a few clicks. It will be a user-friendly app that will have plenty of useful and convenient features, some of which we’ve mentioned below.

Keys features of the app:

  • Real-time availability checks: Users can scan nearby stores to get access to real-time availability of preferred brands.
  • Pre-booking option: Reserve specific bottles for pickup, streamlining the shopping process.
  • One-hour pickup window: Stores can hold pre-booked orders for an hour. If the item(s) remain unclaimed after the 1-hour pickup window, items will be returned to general sale.
  • Stock mapping and updates: All outlets must log inventory in a digital manner. This will help authorities analyze in-demand brands and also address shortages.

Does the pre-booking incur additional fee? The government or the excise policy draft is yet to discuss the pre-booking fee.

Delhi Excise Policy Draft: Public Feedback Expected By January

The new pre-booking app will remain a cornerstone of the draft new excise policy. Chaired by Public Works Department Minister Parvesh Verma, a high-level committee is finalizing the draft of the new Delhi excise policy.

New Delhi Excise Policy

It is expected that the new excise policy will enter the public domain for stakeholder feedback, likely by January 2026. PWD Minister Parvesh Verma’s committee has already held multiple stakeholder meetings and has incorporated input from manufacturers and retailers on different aspects. These aspects include excise revenue, retail margins, ease of business, legal drinking age, and private sector roles. Once the draft policy receives a green signal under stakeholder feedback, it will be sent for approval from the Cabinet and Lieutenant Governor before official notification.

The revised policy emerges amid ongoing ‘extensions’ of the old excise policy operational since September 2022. While the reformative policy by Aam Aadmi Party in 2021-22 faced scrutiny, it also led to repeated short-term renewals and was met with alleged irregularities.

Current Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has emphasized creating a “foolproof and transparent” framework that would draw from the best practices of other states and ensure maximum revenue.
