Piccadilly Launches Indri Rudhira Pineau Cask Edition, Only 252 Bottles Available

India’s single malt story continues to evolve and it’s getting more experimental by the day. Indri Single Malt Whisky has unveiled a new limited-edition expression called Rudhira, pushing the boundaries of what Indian whisky can look and taste like. Crafted by Piccadilly Distillery, the release comes in collaboration with The Dram Club and is being positioned as a collector’s piece rather than a mass-market drop.

Indri Single Malt Whisky Launches Rudhira

Only 252 individually numbered bottles of Indri Rudhira have been produced, making it one of the rarest offerings to come out of India’s growing premium whisky segment. What sets Rudhira apart is its maturation.

The whisky has been finished in Pineau des Charentes casks, a French fortified wine barrel style that hasn’t previously been used for Indian single malts. The result is a profile that leans into both fruit-forward sweetness and subtle complexity, marking a notable first for the category.

Price & Availability

Bottled at 50% Alcohol By Volume (ABV), the expression is clearly aimed at seasoned drinkers who enjoy bold, structured whiskies. It is currently priced at INR 12,500 and available exclusively in Bengaluru, reinforcing its limited and location-specific appeal.

A Different Direction For Indian Single Malts

Over the past few years, Indian single malts have steadily moved beyond their early positioning, experimenting with cask finishes and flavour profiles typically seen in global markets. With Rudhira, Indri seems to be doubling down on that shift, bringing in techniques that are still relatively unexplored locally.

The whisky itself is described as lightly peated, offering a balance between smoke and sweetness rather than leaning too heavily in either direction. On the nose, it opens with ripe fruit notes, think orchard fruits and apricot, layered with hints of honey and soft floral tones. There’s also a gentle trace of peat and toasted wood in the background.

On the palate, the experience deepens. Expect flavours of caramelised fruit, vanilla, and mild spice, with the oak influence adding structure. The finish is long and warming, carrying a mix of lingering sweetness and a faint smoky edge.

Produced in the village of Indri, the whisky reflects the brand’s signature approach, combining Indian climatic conditions with global techniques. The use of Pineau casks adds an extra layer of character, giving Rudhira a profile that stands apart from more conventional expressions.

More importantly, the release signals where the Indian whisky market is headed. Small-batch, high-proof, and experimental bottlings are increasingly finding an audience among collectors and enthusiasts willing to explore beyond standard offerings.

Summing Up

With just over 250 bottles in circulation, Rudhira isn’t expected to stay on shelves for long. For those who follow India’s single malt journey closely, this is less about accessibility, and more about being part of a moment where the category continues to redefine itself.
