Who thought that one day we would be drinking AI-brewed beers?
Rob McInerney, the founder of Intelligent Layer and Huw Leith, the founder of 10x met each other at a WeWork co-working space in London and joined hands to form IntelligentX to take their mutual love for beer on a ride through the world of AI. With the goal to create an ever-evolving beer of the highest quality, the duo embarked on a journey to use AI to craft beer recipes that the consumers desire in the current times.
Based in London, the firm IntelligentX has been successful in offering the world’s first AI-brewed beers to the general public. Using a machine learning algorithm, IntelligentX’s AI, ABI (Automated Brewing Intelligence) collects customer feedback and maps data that is passed on to the brewer to better the next batch of the beverage. This results in a better beer that complements the consumers’ palate to the maximum.
Marketed as a premium beer, they come in four ale variants – Golden, Amber, Pale and Black. The packaging has a code on it that consumers can scan to be directed to a Facebook Messenger bot where they are asked to answer questions related to the beers’ character. This information is used by the algorithm to track trends, patterns and self-improve its program.
The data is passed on to the brewer who accepts and rejects the suggestions based on the practicality of the AI-generated recipes. IntelligentX aims to better ABI with this continuous self-learning process and waits for the day when the AI learns enough to offer better suggestions. This whole process works by involving the consumers in the brewery’s decision making processes. Soon, there will be a day when AI beers will be customised to suit an individual consumer’s preference!
AI beers are priced at £4.50 and a case of 10 beers is available for £29. For now, the beers are available only in the UK but IntelligentX has plans of expanding its distribution in the international market. Interesting, isn’t it?
