Delhi Declares Dry Days Until 3 December: Here's the Reason Behind The Dry Days

Delhi, the national capital of India, has announced dry days from November 28, 2025, to December 3, 2025, due to the forthcoming Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) by-elections. During this period, the sale of all types of alcohol, including Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and country liquor, will be prohibited in certain areas. Specifically, alcohol sales will be banned in 12 designated MCD wards where the elections are taking place. Here’s everything you need to know about the dry days declared in Delhi.

Delhi To Observe Dry Days Till December 3

The State Election Commission had scheduled the polling for November 30, and the counting of results will be done on December 3. The dry days are declared mainly to uphold public order and peace during such significant events that are important religious or national occasions.

The currently declared dry days are during the ongoing Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) by-elections, which are put into effect to prevent any unfair influence that might be caused because of the sale or consumption of alcohol in the areas that are election wards. Such bans during the electoral processes are mandatory as per the Delhi Excise Rules, 2010.

Which Areas Will Be Affected? Can Alcohol Be Ordered Online?

The dry day ban is specifically applied in the following 12 MCD (Municipal Corporation of Delhi) wards:

  • Mundka
  • Shalimar
  • Bagh-B
  • Ashok Vihar
  • Chandni Chowk
  • Chandni Mahal
  • Dwarka-B
  • Dichaon Kalan
  • Naraina
  • Sangam Vihar-A
  • Dakshin Puri
  • Greater Kailash
  • Vinod Nagar

All the licensed liquor vendors, like bars, shops, and other outlets within these zones, have been ordered to pause their operations until December 3, 2025.

Due to the regulations of dry days, the sale of alcohol is banned in the affected wards. This clearly means that even online sales and deliveries will also be restricted during the dry days in these areas. However, the residents living in the areas that are not under the ban can easily purchase alcohol from the shops that will remain open or even order alcohol online.

Inspections And Penalties

The Delhi Excise Department and the enforcement team might conduct inspections. This is to make sure that people are not violating the dry day rules. All the licensed sellers who will be found violating the rules and regulations might face penalties. This strict enforcement will surely help in bringing in public safety and neutrality during the election process.

Hence, the selected wards will follow all the preventive measures to observe a dry day until December 3, 2025, in order to maintain electoral integrity during the by-elections.

The liquor shops in these affected wards will have to shut down their sales from the evening before the election day and not open the stores until the election process, counting, and results are done. The ban covers all alcoholic beverages from IMFL to beer. According to the rules, the serving of liquor at clubs, restaurants, and hotels is also prohibited in these wards during this period.
