Greater Than Gin delivers a nice and vibrant experience to the senses. Its taste offers bold juniper with fresh citrus from orange and lemon peel. It also has subtle sweetness from fennel and coriander. The spirit also has ginger, which offers a nice zing on the palate with a mild spicy aftertaste.
The mouthfeel is silky smooth with a light body. The transition from palate to finish is very effortless, offering crispness which is ideal for cocktails. It also has heat and bitterness from botanicals, bringing in some complexity.

Greater Than Gin was launched by Nao Spirits in 2017, which marked India’s entry into the production of craft gin. It was founded by Anand Virmani, who was part of the team at William Grant & Sons. He also had his wife, Aparajita Ninan, and partners Abhinav Rajput and Vaibhav Singh. The brand idea emerged in a Delhi bar scene in 2015.
It was inspired by the colonial roots of G&T and the spice heritage of India. They aimed to come up with a spirit that was affordable yet premium. They began distilling this spirit in Goa’s Margao using a 1000L Hagyo Copper Pot Still. After years of improving and sourcing botanicals like juniper and Indian ginger, they finally launched Greater Than in 2017.
The initial sales were about 7,836 bottles in one single year amid a small premium gin market. In March 2022, a pivotal INR 31.5 crore investment from Diageo India helped them acquire 22.5% stake, which helped in expansion. By 2025, Greater Than sold 1 million bottles yearly across 16 countries, 3 union territories, and 11 states.
Greater than Gin, with its amazing taste profile, has made India proud of its creations. The brand is moderately priced in Mumbai and is a good option for house parties with friends and even family members.
