Here’s all the information you need to know about this Indian dry gin that’s making waves across the globe.

Hapusa Himalayan Dry Gin: Origin, Name, Botanicals, Price, And More

Hapusa Himalayan Dry Gin: The Origin Story

Hapusa is the world’s first Himalayan dry gin, just to clear it off the bat! The brand has its origins that take us back to a chance encounter in 2015 between hospitality veterans Anand Virmani and Jay Dhawan. Frustrated by the lack of good Indian gin, they decided to take matters into their own hands.

The duo acquired a copper pot still and then began a saga of experimenting with spices, herbs, flowers, and fruits before they settled on the final recipe for the Hapusa Himalayan Dry Gin. Emerged Hapusa – the only gin in the world using Himalayan juniper berries as its star ingredient!

Hapusa: Name And Botanicals Used

The name ‘Hapusa’ comes from the Sanskrit word that translates to ‘juniper’. This juniper is sourced from the lush green pine forests of the Himalayas. It forms the base of the gin, like most other gins, and provides a structure around which the rest of the botanicals are structured. The other botanicals used in the gin are sourced locally from Himalayan forests, along the Hooghly River, emerald-green forests of Tamil Nadu, as well as spice farms of Goa. The latter is also where NAO Spirits’ distillery is located.

In terms of the botanicals used, the brand uses varied ingredients like turmeric, ginger, cardamom, gondhoraj lime, and coriander. Not just that, it also uses dried mango and almond, giving the gin an exceptional texture and flavor that bursts with a bold earthiness.
