Uppal Brewers and Distillers (UBD) has set up a shop just a few months ago in the beginning of 2025. During the launch it promised to launch a premium product every six months and we’re more than happy to let you know that the distiller has launched their second product, Madhvan Blended Whisky!
No, it does not have any association with the Indian actor R. Madhavan, and neither is it pronounced like his last name. Here’s all you need to know about the newest whisky on the block: Madhvan, that’s championing the ‘Made in India’ whisky.
UBD’s latest product, Madhvan Blended Whisky, was launched at a grand event held at The Claridges, a luxurious hotel in New Delhi, on August 22, 2025. The launch took place at Aura, the hotel’s elegant bar, and was attended by numerous industry professionals and notable figures from the Indian whisky sector.
In this event, the distiller revealed their newest Madhvan whisky bottle and details about the product. The brand name derives from ‘Madhu’ (honey) and ‘van’ (forest) – highlighting how the whisky is a blend of sweet flavors and the ever-giving nature.
The motif of the leaping Bengal tiger with the tagline – ‘dahaad iraado ki’ (roar of the unshakeable will) perfectly complements the brand philosophy.
UBD has realized that the average Indian consumer is evolving. The average Indian consumer consuming whisky now loves experimentation and appreciates quality just as much as the price. Sometimes, the consumer is even willing to compromise on the price for the superior quality. Tapping on this sentiment, UBD is thoughtfully curating its brand launches and products, aligning with the sensibilities of the modern Indian consumers.
Details of the price and availability of the whisky have not been revealed yet, but worry not! Team unsobered will definitely keep you updated!

Madhvan Blended Whisky emphasizes the sentiment it aims to capture, stating that it is crafted for a new, more confident India.
The brand invokes a sense of traditional masculinity, much like whisky itself. UBD understands its customer base well. While it may appear that Indian brands are merely capitalizing on cultural pride, UBD believes this is just the “tip of the iceberg.” The company is rapidly expanding its portfolio and plans to launch a new product every six months.

Makers of Madhvan Whisky also asserted that the country has always been a whisky-drinking nation. While Indian gin had its moment and the current trends are in favor of tequila, India’s love for whisky remains unchanged and unfazed. In the 90s and 2000s, India was in love with scotch and duty-free products. Then, single malts dominated the market and soon, many single malts entered the premiumization race.
Cut to 2025, the Indian whisky market is experiencing a renaissance of sorts – with more and more Indian players churning out award-winning whiskies and globally-acclaimed expressions. Now, everyone wants a slice of the pie – making it only natural for the esteemed Uppal Group to venture into the lucrative Indian whisky market.
Madhvan takes pride in its cultural identity – especially at a time when more and more Indian consumers are preferring quality India-made products over seemingly high-end, but hollow, or even low-quality foreign products.

UBD launched their first product, the SOORAHI Whisky, in January 2025. The whisky is a finest blended Indian whisky that was launched in Delhi for a price of INR 1700. SOORAHI, as their first product, derived its inspiration from the essence of discovery, travel, and voyages. Take the name itself for example – a combination of soo (good) and rahi (traveler).
Even the packaging perfectly represents the brand philosophy, with symbolic elements of the compass and the North Star, indicating guidance and ambition.
Madhvan is proof that India-made whiskies haven’t died down, they’re only flourishing. And with the Indian consumer becoming more and more aware of their choices and preferences, it is sure that this whisky will stand the test of time – be its impeccable craftsmanship or its unabashed connection with its roots. We certainly can’t wait for this whisky to hit retail store shelves and try it yourself!
